BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HEALTH OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS TO PREVENT ……… DEATHS

The Jaman North District Officer of Veterinary Services in the Bono Region, Mr. Idriss Yahya has cautioned the general public to be much concerned about the health of their domestic animals, especially dogs to avoid rabies disease infections which eventually leads to the death of infected animal or human who may get infected by rabies virus through rabid dog or animal bite.

Mr. Idriss Yahya speaking in an exclusive interview DKMNEWS.NET indicated that , rabies has no cure after the signs and symptoms are seen on the affected animal or human being hence it is necessary to ensure frequent vaccination of our dogs and cats to guarantee our health and the general Public free from this deadly but preventable disease since infected animals can easily transmit the infection to humans which eventually leads to the death of the affected person and the animal as well.

Mr. Idriss Yahya touched on some of the signs and symptoms of rabies in animals and humans indicating that affected dogs may quickly become restless and irritable, even showing aggression.

Also if the dogs are usually friendly and happy, they may suddenly change and chase or bite other animals ,humans and even in-animate objects like wood ,metals etc. Other signs of rabies in animals include, difficulty swallowing, excessive drooling, staggering, seizures,and even paralysis.

As the virus progresses, your dog may act as though they are overstimulated, unnecessary movements, and sounds may appear to have a negative effect. They may seek out a dark, quiet place to hide or act aggressively.

Also, persons who may get infected either through bite or orally taking saliva of a rabid dog or cat through kissing etc can easily get infected with rabies virus and may develop signs like excessive fever, headache, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis ,mental confusion, ,running away from water and light and will definitely die after these signs are shown.
