The Ashanti Regional Organiser for Small Scale Miners Association Mr. Kwaku Duah has called on the government to offer the necessary support, “Legal backing and direction” to Ghana National Associaton of Small Scale Miners ( GNASSM ) to fight illegal small scale mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ in the country.
According to him, the Association has about One Hundred and Fifty (150) Taskforce in mining regions and can recruit more to fight against galamsey if, necessary support is given.
Speaking to DKMNEWS.NET at press conference, Mr Kwaku Duah assured that, the Association would prevent anybody whose aims at destroying the environment, particularly water bodies, vegetation cover and other natural resources for sustainable development.
He urged the public to desist from politicizing the fight against galamsey since that gave the offenders hope to destroy land and water bodies.
