HEALTH ALERT : 42 SUSPECTED BREAST CANCER CASES RECORDED IN SUNYANI PER KATH REPORT

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has recorded 42 suspected cases of breast cancer in Sunyani, Mrs. Constance Antwi Bosiako, a registered General Nurse at the breast care center at the KATH has said.

She announced this when speaking to the media after a-day breast cancer screening and awareness exercise conducted in Sunyani on Friday.

The free breast cancer screening exercise was organized by Suncity Radio, Suncity Imperial Lodge, Sunyani in collaboration with the KATH.

Mrs. Antwi Bosiako, the leader of a team of breast care professionals said out of 306 screened, 42 suspected cases including 18 lumps were recorded.

The number according to her is very serious and alarming compared to cases recorded at palaces including Kejetia, Aful-Nkwanta, Obuase, New Adubease and some schools they have conducted the exercise this year.

Mrs. Antwi Bosiako said the patients have been given request forms to go for mammogram and ultra scan for further investigation and necessary actions immediately on confirmed cases.

She said the team was moving together with ‘Rush Products Ghana’, a cancer drugs manufacturing organization to follow up cases of people who may not afford the needed resources for their treatment.

Mrs. Antwi Bosiako expressed worry that breast cancer is killing a lot of women, and there is high prevalence of saddened deaths, therefore there is critical need for all to take our health very serious.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, in her visit commended organizers of the exercise for their kind heart to save lives of people in Sunyani and the Bono region.
