Injured Ben Chilwell officially ruled out of Qatar 2022 World Cup but Chelsea reveal England defender will NOT need surgery despite ‘significant’ hamstring tear

Ben Chilwell’s World Cup dreams are over with confirmation the left-back will miss this winter’s tournament in Qatar through injury.

The Chelsea man is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring tear, but will not need surgery to fix the issue.

Chiwell picked up the injury in the final minute of Chelsea’s Champions League dead rubber against Dinamo Zagreb.

He was spotted on camera telling teammate Mason Mount that he felt his leg ‘pop’ and the player underwent a scan on Friday evening once the swelling subsided to determine the full extent of the damage.

Chelsea confirmed on Saturday that the results are not good for England, with a hamstring tear meaning he will not travel to the World Cup, which kicks off later this month.

It is claimed he does not need surgery, but could be facing as long as three months out of action.

It means he will not only miss the entire World Cup, but also a large chunk of the Premier League when the domestic campaign restarts after the tournament in Qatar is finished.

“Following the injury sustained in our recent game against Dinamo Zagreb, Ben has undergone a scan on his hamstring,” a Chelsea statement read.
