MOAWANO RESIDENTS CRIES OVER LACK OF PORTABLE WATER – DKMNEWS.NET

Residents at Moawano in the Amansie South district of Ashanti region continue to struggle in their quest to have access to potable water in the community risk of contradicting water borne diseases.

According to the residents, some NGOs have constructed mechanic boreholes to the community but due to the used of chemicals waste for mining activities has contaminated the ground water which cannot be used and aside the health issues they faced, the situation compelled some of them to spend much on buying sachet water on daily basis for their domestic chores and is affecting their finances.

The residents made this known during the free health screening exercise organized by Mr Simon Opoku Afriyie a journalist at otec fm Kumasi,a native of the community and supported by Marboah hospital for the people of Moawano and Dome in the Amansie South district.

In his part, Abusuapanin Yaw Twumasi, Otumfuo Wedempimhene Ankobea Abusuapanin also crying over lack of basic school in the community which is denying school going children access to quality education.

He maintained that, due to that, little children in the town used to walk over 1.5 miles on daily basis to attend school at Dome and Mim which is very dangerous for their safety and appealed to the government to come to their aid to complete the abandoned KG blocks started by the residents.

He however asked Ghana Gas Company operating in the community to offer job opportunity to the youth.

The medical director and CEO of Marboah hospital at Mbrom, Kumasi, Dr Cedric Opoku Danquah expressed worry about the lack of potable water in the community which is highly risk of contracting waterborne diseases to the people in the near future.

He however advised the youth to questioned opinion leaders in the community to help find solution to illegal mining activities to save their water bodies from pollution.
