Somnyamekodu is a farming community with population of about 1,000 people in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of central region.

Meanwhile, the children in the community are almost denied of quality education.

Speaking in an interview with DKMNEWS.NET, the chief of Somnyamekodu, Nana Adams Asabre II disclosed that, the only public basic school in the area is the Somnyamekodu D/A Basic School which accommodate about 300 school children in the area but sadly, teaching and learning take place in old wooden structures which was put up by the community themselves.

Nana also bemoaned that, there are only 7 teachers in the school from KG to JHS 3 of which 4 are Community Teaching Assistants who are paid by the parents themselves and the worst of it all is that, the learners sit on bare floor to learn due to a huge furniture deficit in the school.

The people of Twifo Somnyamekodu are not only facing educational challenges but also share a contaminated water with animals which according to the chief, has resulted in many diseases and infections among the residents.

Nana Adams Asabre II called on the individuals, NGOs and the government at large to come to their aid.

Some of the dismayed residents of Twifo Somnyamekodu also have this to add to what their chief said.
