NCA ANNOUNCES SHORT CODE FOR SIM VERIFICATION STARTING MAY…… – DKMNEWS.NET

The National Communications Authority (NCA) and telecommunication companies in Ghana have been collaborating on a new short code system that will enable individual subscribers to verify the number of SIM cards registered to their Ghana Card.

This initiative is part of the NCA’s ongoing efforts to enhance and streamline the SIM registration process in Ghana, while also providing subscribers with greater control over the number of SIM cards that are registered under their name.

In recent years, there have been concerns about the proliferation of unregistered SIM cards, which pose security risks and can be used for criminal activities.

The NCA has announced that the short code *402*1# is expected to be operational by May 1,2023 following the completion of testing and approval.

According to the Director of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, NCA, Nana Defie Badu,the short code will allow subscribers to simply type in a few digits on their phone and after a verification process that requires the use of the Ghana Card PIN, the number of SIMs registered with the card will be displayed.

Nana Defie has urged subscribers to take advantage of this new system once it becomes operational, as it will enable them to keep track of the SIM cards registered under their name and reduce the risk of fraud and other criminal activities.

She said the shortcode *402*1# will allow subscribers to simply type in a few digits on their phone and after a verification process that requires the use of the Ghana Card PIN, the number of SIMs registered with the card will be displayed.

With the implementation of the short code, subscribers will no longer have to physically visit their service providers to verify the number of SIMs associated with their Ghana Card.
