Amartey to move to Chelsea

Rumours have emerged linking Ghana defender Daniel Amartey, who is currently a free agent, with a potential move to London after he was spotted meeting with new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Amartey’s contract with Leicester City will expire in June, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. He is among the eight senior players who have been confirmed to leave the club at the end of the month, granting him the freedom to engage in discussions with any interested clubs.

Pochettino, who was recently appointed as Chelsea manager, is reportedly planning a squad overhaul following a disappointing season that saw the team finish outside the top 10.

While Amartey could potentially be a valuable addition to the Chelsea squad, his history with the club may complicate any potential move.

In 2021, Amartey angered Chelsea players and fans when he threw the club’s pennant on the ground after Leicester City beat the Blues in FA Cup final.

The defender’s disrespectful behaviour prompted Leicester City to issue an apology on behalf of the player.
