General Legal Council reverses Ama Governor’s application to be called to the Bar two days before scheduled call on Friday October 20th.
According to the letter, upon receipt of her application, Ms Ababio was informed that her conduct would be monitored by the Council in accordance with dictates of the law profession.
“In line with the General Legal Council’s letter dated 13th March, 2023, Council was to observe and monitor your conduct during the time leading up to the submission of your application to be called to the bar” the GLC stated.
The letter indicated that Ms Ababio couldn’t meet the criteria, hence her application to be called to the Ghanaian bar has been declined.
Elorm Ama Ababio (popularly known as Ama Governor) is a Ghanaian YouTuber, social media influencer and lawyer-in-waiting. In November 2022, a complaint was raised against her conduct on social media that she was exhibiting some behaviors not fit for the law profession. According to the complainant, Ama was seen in viral videos not fit for an applicant yet to be called to the Bar.
In September, Ama publicly announced that her queer sexual orientation was not enough grounds for her not to be called to the bar. Therefore, she has won the case against the Council and is going to be called to the bar in October 2023, but with some few days to her enrolment ceremony, the u-tuber has been told to re-apply.
