Abena Osei-Poku appointed MD of Ecobank Ghana

Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku will be replacing Joana Mensah as the new Managing Director. Joana Mensah took on the role of Acting Managing Director after the retirement of Dan Sackey. It’s always interesting to see new leadership changes in organizations.

Mrs. Osei-Poku is an accomplished Pan-African business leader with over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Her expertise spans Corporate and Investment banking, Business banking, and Risk Management at the regional level. She started her career as a private banker with First Atlantic Merchant Bank and later joined Standard Chartered Bank Ghana. She has held various positions, including Assistant Relationship Manager, Credit Manager for Multinational Corporates, and Director for Global Corporates. Currently, she serves as the Executive Director for Commercial Banking at Barclays Bank Ghana, overseeing Corporate & Business Banking.

Abena Osei-Poku has an impressive career history. She was appointed as CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana before her recent appointment by Ecobank. She has served on boards in various industries, including telecommunications, banking, commerce, and hospitality. Currently, she holds the position of Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana and is the outgoing Chairperson for the Council of the Ghana Stock Exchange. She also has honorary memberships and serves on other executive forums. Abena Osei-Poku holds an MBA from Manchester Business School, UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana.
