Alejandra Rodriguez, a 60-year-old lawyer and journalist based in Argentina’s La Plata, recently made history by winning the Miss Universe Buenos Aires beauty pageant. She competed against 34 other women, ranging in age from 18 to 73, and now she’s planning to compete for Argentina’s Miss Universe title on May 25.
If she succeeds, she could go on to represent Argentina in the global Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City later this year.
“I am thrilled to be representing this new paradigm in beauty pageants. It’s not just about physical beauty anymore, but a whole new set of values. I am the first of this generation to lead the way.” – Rodríguez said
Starting from September 2023, the Miss Universe Organization made a significant change by removing the age limit for contestants.
Previously, only women between the ages of 18 to 28 were eligible to participate. But now, any woman over the age of 18 can compete in the pageant. This new rule has opened the door for older women to challenge the norms and make their debut on the pageant stage.
