Mota community, a predominant farming community near Mim in the Asunafo North Municipal of the Ahafo Region is appealing to authorities to come to their aid as some people use pumping machines to drain the Goa River for fishes during the dry season.
They said, the river is the only source of water used for domestic and farming purposes especially during the dry period and the effect of the illegal act is very devastating.
A visit to the community saw pollute river and materials used for the illegal activities.
Speaking to some of the farmers they said, “every year people drain the river which always effect their leaven and farming activities”, adding that they believe that some people including traditional authorities are behind the illegal activities.
Some revealed that last year, one the farmers allegedly reported those involved to Authorities was nearly killed if not the timely intervention by some of the farmers, this has become a threat for them to report these people to the security agencies.
