Aidan Hutchinson – NFL news – Detroit Lions – Aidan Hutchinson is bringing his A-game to his grooming routine.

The Detroit Lions defensive end, 25, opened up to PEOPLE exclusively about his personal hygiene — and shared that “feminine energy” keeps him in check while chatting about his new partnership with Head & Shoulders.

Specifically, the professional athlete, who has two older sisters, Aria and Mia Hutchinson, told PEOPLE that his “upbringing” had shaped his approach to his routine. “Growing up around guys I think is different,” he says of his dynamic.

Therefore, Aidan credits his sisters (Aria is a former Miss Michigan USA 2022 titleholder and Mia performed the National Anthem at a Lions game in 2023) and his mom, Melissa Sinkevics (a former model, who was crowned Miss Michigan Teen USA in 1988) — for ensuring his outward appearance and personal hygiene is on point, and making a point to let him know if it’s not.

“They make sure I’m on my Ps and my Qs and they’ll call me out if I’m looking a little crazy,” he tells PEOPLE, adding, “Or [if] I smell a certain type of way, they’re going to call me out and they’re going to let me know.” That’s why Aidan’s recent team up with Head & Shoulders made sense.

“Wearing the helmet, you’re getting all sweaty and the scalp’s getting dry,” he says of why he turns to the official shampoo of the NFL to tackle dandruff with every wash. “It really helps things feel smooth, ready to go and my hair is great.”

As for how many times a day he showers? Aidan says “It depends.”

“If you’re working out in the morning and then you shower after the workout, or you practice and you shower after the practice… and then if I go in the hot tub, I’ll usually rinse off [after that], but I don’t know if you consider a rinse off a shower?” He concludes, “So I’d say one to two, to maybe three depending on the day.”

In addition to his grooming routine, Aidan prioritizes his physical wellbeing with recovery methods like ice baths after his long practices and high-pressure games with the Detroit Lions.

“My body is my temple, and if I can get it feeling as best as I can, it’s going to ultimately aid my performance. So it’s really, I do a lot in that area,” he tells PEOPLE of prioritizing his health and wellness.

“After games I like to do a lot of Epsom salt stuff… A lot of that muscular relieving soreness and stuff like that,” the NFL star explains. “But I try to do hyperbaric [oxygen therapy] a couple times a week before the game. The sauna and the red light a couple times a week. Maybe once or twice.”

“When there’s a lot going on, it’s hard to get it all in,” he says, adding, “But that’s kind of the focus every week is just to get a little bit of everything and to make myself feeling better.”

This season is Aidan’s third year in the league since being selected the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. It also marks his return to the field since his season-ending leg injury last year.

“I’m feeling great,” he tells PEOPLE of his return. “I really feel like it’s all behind me and I’ve been playing good football since I got back… You’re even more grateful and blessed because of that injury last year.”

He concludes, “It’s been amazing. We’ve had a lot of success, a lot of early success, so we’re going to continue and keep it up. I can’t wait.”
