Things are heating up in the Assin North constituency as we draw closer to the by-election on 27th of June, 2023.

The Majority New Patriotic Party, NPP are determined to unseat the National Democratic Congress, NDC to improve their quantitative margin in Parliament and are desperately doing all they could including undertaking developmental works and bribe.

Residents of Assin Gangan in the Assin North constituency are proving tough as they would not be bought. The NPP are giving them roofing sheets, clothes, and promising them even more development if they vote for them.

“Some of those distributing the election buying stuff are individuals in NPP shirts who came to homes to offer money, roofing sheets and bags in exchange for votes but they rejected it,” a resident said.

According to residents, “the youth are suffering and government is doing nothing about it and NPP want to throw dust into our eyes with delusional promises. The Assin North will not fall for manipulative schemes. We the youth have come to love Gyakye Quayson because he has the issues of the youth at heart, I can’t continue to be an NPP supporter else my children will suffer.”

The Resident who spoke to Metro News, said he has advised his people to take the items and still vote against them.

“it’s a disgrace to us the party folks that you knew the right thing yet didn’t do it, and now you’re bringing items in an attempt to bribe us. That isn’t good. You knew the right thing and should’ve done it”

The Assembly Member of the Assin Gangan community said projects initiated by the NDC halted when the NPP came to power. He added that government should focus on completing their roads for them to consider their candidate.

On Tuesday, May 30, Parliament declared the Assin North seat vacant giving way for fresh elections in the constituency.

The Electoral Commission subsequently slated a by-election in the area on June 27.
