El Segundo, California (AP) Christian Wood, a Lakers big man, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, the latest injury blow for Los Angeles’ depth players.

The Lakers did not specify a timeline for Wood’s rehabilitation from the treatment, which was performed at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre. However, Wood, who has been out since February 14, is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season due to the injury.

The Lakers (37-32) are also missing veterans Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish, reducing the depth of what formerly appeared to be a good supporting group for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Vanderbilt has been sidelined since February 1 with a damaged right foot, and Vincent injured his knee in October after only five games for the Lakers in his first season. The organisation has not said when each veteran will be able to play again, which is likely a poor indication for their prospects.

Reddish has been out with an ankle injury since March 8, but the Lakers anticipate the defensive-minded wingman to return shortly.

Wood has averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 50 games this season, his first with the Lakers. Jaxson Hayes has performed admirably as Los Angeles’ backup centre in Wood’s absence.
