On Tuesday, the Detroit MC shared the cover image for The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe De Grâce) shortly before its release. The cover shows the rap legend with bleach-blonde hair, looking startled, almost fully zipped up inside a body bag while still alive. This visual hints at his iconic Slim Shady persona, which he appears prepared to retire.
The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe De Grâce) is set to drop on Friday, July 12. Earlier this year, Eminem began promoting the album by releasing an obituary for his iconic alter ego that played a significant role in his career during the 1990s. The obituary was featured in the Detroit Free Press in mid-May, focusing on the upcoming LP.
The article featured a picture of the 8 Mile star sporting a Jason Voorhees-style hockey mask, reminiscent of his earlier days. The subheading mentioned that fans will never forget the controversial rapper. The text highlighted Eminem’s roots in Detroit and his rise in the underground rap scene of the 1990s. His breakthrough came in 1999 with the release of “My Name Is,” which introduced his unique style to a broader audience through its attention-grabbing music video.
“Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end. His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which this character departed this world. May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.”
Eminem has already dropped two singles to build excitement for his upcoming album: “Tobey” featuring Big Sean and BabyTron, and “Houdini.” These tracks are getting fans hyped up for the release of “The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe De Grâce)” this Friday!
