Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend sued him on Tuesday on civil charges of assault, battery, defamation, and injury of emotional distress, three months after the actor was convicted in a criminal trial of attacking her in New York City.
Grace Jabbari, a 31-year-old British dancer, filed the lawsuit in federal court in Manhattan, alleging that Majors subjected her to escalating physical and verbal abuse between 2021 and 2023.
“Grace Jabbari’s resolve has never wavered,” her lawyer, Brittany Henderson, wrote in an email to The Associated Press. “She has demonstrated incredible guts in her pursuit of accountability. This action will reveal the truth, giving her the closure and justice she deserves.”
Majors, 34, maintained his innocence throughout the court proceedings. A Manhattan jury convicted him in December of one misdemeanour assault charge and one harassment violation resulting from an altercation with Jabbari in March. He was also cleared of a separate assault allegation and aggravated harassment. Sentencing is scheduled for April 8.
Jabbari said Majors assaulted her in a car, leaving her in “excruciating” pain; his lawyers argued Jabbari was the one who assaulted her.
