She admitted to recruiting couriers to carry multiple products on flights from Colombia to the US for events like New York Fashion Week. She was arrested in Cali in 2022 and extradited to the US. In a federal court in Miami, she was sentenced to 18 months for violating US wildlife laws. The handbags, made from caiman and python hides bred in captivity, were valued at up to $2 million, according to prosecutors. However, the designer’s lawyers claimed that each skin cost only around $140.
