Fierce Fire Contained Near Dignity DTRT Facility on Graphic Road – Updates & Safety Measures

Fierce fire Graphic Road – Dignity DTRT facility fire – Firefighters successfully confined a massive blaze that engulfed the Budget Deco warehouse Thursday afternoon near the Dignity DTRT clothing and textile facility, located between the CMB and the Graphic Press at Adabraka in Accra.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFO) Rashid Nisawu, the Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that the Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 1513 hours.

He said the personnel arrived at the scene at 1517 hours to find the fire already in a mature state.

“A total of five fire engines, including a 10-table ladder unit, were quickly marshalled to combat the flames,” ACFO Nisawu said.

“The good news is that we have managed to confine the fire. We are assuring the public that the fire’s spread has been contained. It cannot go to the left, it cannot go to the right, it cannot go anywhere.”

The commander estimated that it took the firefighting teams “almost an hour” to achieve the confinement.

Despite the success in confining the fire, the operation was hampered by significant logistical challenges.

The Assistant Chief Fire Officer highlighted accessibility and water supply situations as the primary difficulties encountered by his team.

“The challenge has been accessibility. Like we can see, the usual challenge — we’ve got a water supply issue; we can’t find water around here. Although a hydrant was present in the yard, its pressure was very low,” he said.

He noted that to address the water deficit, the GNFS had to rely on external sources.

“We have asked people to go to the yard of the Graphic Group Limited and other companies around who also have hydrants equally accessible,” he added.

A first observation by the GNA revealed that factories within the Free Zones Yard on Graphic Road were protected from the fire.

When they arrived at the scene, fire personnel had successfully evacuated most of the staff from the companies within the zone.

A few of the staff, however, were aiding firefighting efforts as they moved goods from the warehouses that could be affected by the fire to a safer place.

According to eyewitnesses, the affected warehouse stored combustible materials, including carpets and chairs.
