A farmers group known as Concern Farmers Association of Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo region is calling on Nananon, MCE, and other stakeholders to take swift action against the activities of Fulani herdsmen in their farmlands which keep affecting their farm produce rendering their hard work unproductive.
In a letter signed by the executives of the Association copied to the Municipal Chief Executive, Nananom, Media Houses and other stakeholders have it that the farmers are not happy with how the Fulani herdsmen are destroying their farm produce with cattle with a series of complaints made to the municipal police command for the past 3 years but all effort to safeguard their farmland proofed futile hence the need to involve Nananom and the MCE to quickly act on the situation to ensure the Fulani herdsmen work by law and order or be compelled to exit the community for peace to prevail.
Speaking in an interview with DKMNEWS.NET, Mr. Alex Tempoah, vice Chairman of the Concern Farmers Association of Bechem (CFAB) stated that the activities of the Fulani Herdsmen over the past 3years are affecting farmers in the municipality rendering their hard work an unprofitable one.
He stressed that some of the Fulani Herdsmen send the cattle at night to graze on the farm, sleep in the bush and wake up the next day to continue razing, activities they said are affecting their farm produce hence calling on authorities to act or advise themselves.
Mr. Abdulai Wahabu, a farmer also added that they can’t call for a compulsory banishment of the entire Fulani herdsmen since some are diligently working without intimidating any farmer but they wish authorities compel one Ahmed Fulani and his Allies to exit the Bechem community because they are behind all the distractions in the various farmlands and farm produce.
Finally, they stressed that they can’t fight the Fulani herdsmen, nor can they be beaten hence their plea to authorities to take swift action in ensuring that they are called to order to facilitate peace between the farmers and the herdsmen.
They noted that if authorities fail to call the Fulanis to order, they shall advise themselves on how to prevent themselves and their farmlands from being destroyed by the cattle.
