Helicopter in Nkawkaw Emergency Landing Belongs to Volta River Aviation, Not VRA – Official Statement

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has said it does not own a helicopter nor operate an aviation service.

Nkawkaw helicopter emergency – Volta River Aviation – Volta River Authority – In a statement dated August 13, 2025 signed and issued by David Adomako Mensah, the Director Corporate Affairs and External Relations, the Volta River Authority said it had noted “with grave concern media publications suggesting that a helicopter which belongs to VRA has emergency landed in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.”

“We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA and neither does VRA operate aviation services.”

“Our checks indicate that the helicopter in question belongs to the Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL) which is registered with the Petroleum Commission.”

Last Monday, a helicopter belonging to the Volta River Aviation, with registration number 9G-AFW, made an emergency landing at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region due to bad weather.

The chopper was said to be travelling from Accra to Kumasi, when the pilot was forced to land after encountering poor visibility.

Sources said, the Jet A-1–powered helicopter made the emergency landing as a safety precaution.

All onboard, the pilot and crew, were safe, with no injuries reported.

Our checks indicate that the helicopter in question belongs to the Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL) which is registered with the Petroleum Commission.

The mandate of the Volta River Authority is to provide affordable reliable electricity to power economies and add value to lives. Our mandate does not include the provision of aviation services.

The public is strongly advised to disregard any such reports.

The media is also advised to make the necessary enquiries with VRA Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department for accurate information before such publications are made.
