JD Vance Texted Jeff Bezos About Breitbart Journalist Leading Washington Post Political Coverage

JD Vance – Jeff Bezos – Washington Post – JD Vance has revealed that he once recommended some restructuring of The Washington Post to its billionaire owner, Jeff Bezos.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, Vance, 41, sat down for a conversation with Breitbart News’ Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle for an interview broadcast on the White House’s video feed.

During the conversation, Vance praised Boyle, describing him as “the most well-sourced journalist in Washington, D.C” — and revealed that he once recommended him to Bezos for a key role at The Washington Post.

“If you remember, maybe six months ago… Maybe it was a year, year and a half ago, when there was this big conversation in The Washington Post about ‘What do we do to actually get in touch with the other half of America. How do we actually make our journalism more appealing to the half of the country that doesn’t agree with far-left politics?’ ” Vance said.

“I actually, I think I texted Jeff Bezos, and I said, ‘If you’re really serious about this, you should just hire Matt Boyle and make him run your entire political reporting shop,’ ” Vance added.

“Now, Larry Solov [cofounder and CEO of Breitbart News] I’m sure is pissed off at me for that suggestion, but, unfortuantely for The Washington Post, they did not take my advice,” he concluded the anecdote.

Bezos has owned the historic publication since 2013, during which he and Donald Trump have had an at-times contentious relationship, due in part to The Washington Post‘s political coverage.

Despite this, Bezos was one of several billionaires to attend Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025. Others in attendance included Elon Musk — who later served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — and Mark Zuckerberg.

Bezos is also one of multiple wealthy donors to bankroll the ballroom Trump is building after demolishing the East Wing of the White House, according to reporting by ABC News. The outlet noted that Bezos also donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration.

More recently, Bezos was one of several high-profile guests to attend a black-tie dinner hosted at the White House during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

The crown prince’s visit was controversial as he has been tied to the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was a contributor to The Washington Post. According to The New York Times, a C.I.A. investigation concluded that bin Salman ordered the death.

Bin Salman has continued to deny any involvement, and Trump refused questions on the topic during a press briefing with the crown prince on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

“You’re mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about,” the president told reporters. “Whether you like him or didn’t like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don’t have to embarrass our guest.”
