Jim Carrey’s Rep and César Awards Chief Address Rumors About His Appearance at France’s Oscars
Carrey, 64, received an honorary award for his contributions to the film and television industry at the awards ceremony in Paris, equivalent to France’s Oscars, on Thursday, Feb. 26. The actor’s return to the public eye has received considerable online attention since the ceremony, with some speculating that someone had impersonated the actor at the event. Prior to the César Awards, the Truman Show star last appeared in public when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025.
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France’s César Awards, told Variety in a statement about Carrey, who delivered his acceptance speech entirely in French. “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”

Addressing Carrey’s physical appearance, Caulier said, “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
As Carrey’s rep tells PEOPLE in a statement on March 2, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”

Carrey appeared at the ceremony alongside his daughter Jane, 38, Jane’s teenage son Jackson and his “companion” Min Ah, each of whom he mentioned in his speech during the event. “Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” he said in French, as his daughter, grandson and girlfriend received ovations from the crowd. “I love you, Min Ah. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father, Percy Joseph Carrey who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter.”
The event appeared to be the first time Carrey and Min Ah stepped out together as a couple. It is unclear how long they have been dating.

Carrey was announced as this year’s Honorary César Award winner back in October 2025. The French Academy praised the actor for his “exceptional versatility” across his film and television roles in a release at that time. At the end of his speech on Feb. 26, Carrey humorously asked the audience how his French sounded. “Almost mediocre, right? Forgive me, I didn’t speak French, but I’m just learning it. My tongue is tired,” he said, per a translation.
Carrey most recently appeared on the big screen as the villainous Dr. Robotnik in the three Sonic the Hedgehog movies, released in 2020, 2022 and 2024. The actor famously claimed he was “fairly serious” about retiring from acting while promoting Sonic 2 before he reprised the role for the video game adaptation’s third entry.
