The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has dismissed two special police constables, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman, who demanded money from a Dutch tourist in Oyo state. On December 8, the Oyo police command arrested them after a video of them demanding money from the foreign rider went viral. Adebola Hamzat, the state commissioner of police, announced their dismissal on Thursday, stating that it was necessary to deter other police officers from engaging in similar acts.

“I affirm the recommended punishment of dismissal for the two police special constabularies, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman,” the commissioner said.

“I hereby pronounce both of them dismissed from the police special constabulary. They will cease to be members of the special constabulary with immediate effect.

“It is hoped that this will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to perform a similar act.”

In a video that went viral, the officers stopped the female rider on the Iseyin-Ogbomosho road in Oyo. They asked her where she was headed, and she mentioned that she was from the Netherlands and going to Abuja. The constables then demanded money or any belongings from her.

“Give me something nah. How is family? Wetin you bring come? Wetin you wan give me?” the officers asked the foreigner.

The officers asked the Dutch rider to “Give me money,” but she responded with “Why?” as she didn’t understand their request in Pidgin English.
