The South African high commission in Ghana declared in a media release on October 13, 2023 that there has been a new development regarding Ghanaians with ordinary passports entering South Africa.
According to the letter, the Ghanaian and South African governments have agreed to adopt a visa waiver for ordinary passport holders for a period of 90 days per year, beginning in November 2023.
The letter further noted that anyone having a regular Ghana passport who wishes to remain longer than the 90-day limit must apply for a visa to enter the Republic of South Africa.
In a statement to the media, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that “the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa have entered into an Agreement on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passports.”
“The Agreement takes effect on November 1, 2023,” said the foreign affairs ministry, directed by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
The announcement comes after South Africa placed Ghana on an e-Visa list. The statement was made in a letter to the media from the South African High Commission on Thursday, September 28
