The government and the teacher unions collaborated to equip every teacher from Kindergarten to the SHS level with one laptop each to facilitate teaching and learning in the country.
The initiative was to scrap the traditional system where teachers have to manually prepare and carry volumes of lesson notes to classrooms before they teach and also to fulfill the government’s digitalization agenda in the education sector.
Meanwhile, it is almost a year now, the agenda seems to have not seen the full light of the day. This has sparked worries among the teachers.
Speaking in an interview with Wassa East based FM, the Mpohor Wassa East district GNAT Chairman, Mr Gabriel Katah disclosed that, so far, all the teachers in the JHSs and the SHSs have received their laptops.
However, the K.G and the Primary school teachers who form the majority of the teachers have not received their laptops.
Mr. Gabriel Katah lamented that, the government has already deducted Gh500 from every teacher for the procurement of the laptops and up to now the K.G and Primary school teachers are yet to receive theirs.
He called on the government to fast truck the distribution process to ensure that every teacher whose money has been deducted has received the laptop.
