Residents of Essumeja in the Bekwai Municipal Assembly of Ashanti Region are living in fear due to the chieftaincy dispute in the community.
According to Baffour Adusei Convener of Concern Youth Of Essumeja, after six months of the enstoolment of Essumeja Chief, Nana Kusi Okyere Darko || , there has not been peace in the town.
“When he is visiting the community, he usually comes here with bodyguards and over 100 police personnel to guard him” Baffour Adusei stated.
In an interview with DKMNEWS.NET, Baffour said, about a month ago, the new enstool Chief of Essumeja, Nana Okyere Kusi Darko || allegedly hired a bodyguards to beat the Queen Mother of Essumeja, AbroNyankopɔn || over land disputes.
Therefore esidents of the Essumeja no longer feel safe in their own town.
“This community is no longer safe because of the weapons being paraded in town when the Chief visits the town, we don’t feel safea and this is a direct breach of the oath he swore to Otumfour Osei Tutu || and the entire Traditional Council on his outdooring”
He added that he is petitioning the Asanteman Wura Otumfour Osei Tutu ||and Regional House Of Chiefs and the Regional Police Command for the law to take its course.
