A Wisconsin woman named Jessy Kurczewski was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree intentional homicide. She was convicted of poisoning her friend, Lynn Hernan, to death with eye drops in 2018. Kurczewski and Hernan were friends, but Kurczewski gradually poisoned her and also stole around $300,000 from her.

Jessy Kurczewski, a woman from Wisconsin, was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide for spiking her friend’s water bottle with a lethal dose of eye drops. The jury deliberated for two days before reaching a verdict, finding Kurczewski guilty on all counts, including intentional homicide and theft. When the verdict was read in court, Kurczewski broke down in tears.

According to the criminal complaint, Kurczewski was also accused of defrauding Hernan of almost $300,000 in the two years before her death. It’s important to note that Kurczewski had pleaded not guilty to first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of felony theft. The trial must have been a difficult and emotional process for everyone involved.

On October 3, 2018, Hernan was found unconscious in her living room recliner, surrounded by prescription pills. The police report initially classified it as a drug overdose. Kurczewski, who was Hernan’s friend and caregiver, called the police after discovering her unresponsive and not breathing. According to the complaint, Kurczewski expressed concerns about Hernan’s mental state due to her challenging health conditions.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office reopened the investigation about three months after Hernan’s passing. This was prompted by the toxicological report, which revealed that Hernan had a lethal amount of tetrahydrozoline, the main component of over-the-counter eye drops, in her system. Following the investigation, Kurczewski was arrested and charged in June 2021.
